For those
seeking a gastronomic experience, the local cuisine is fresh produce, lovingly
prepared. In addition to good food, the Charente is probably most famous for
its cognac and pineau. Distillers including Hennessy, Martell, Courvoisier
and Remy Martin are situated nearby in the town of Cognac, and all offer guided
tours and tastings.
The Charente is also home to hundreds of smaller producers who give a warm
welcome to anyone wishing to get a closer look at the production methods and
experience the diverse flavours that can be found in cognac. Many of these
also make pineau (a delicious aperitif of grape juice and cognac). Phiolin
itself is home to the 'Domaine du Chene' distillery, where visitors
are welcome to drop in and try their award winning produce. |
